Hay bales are made in two basic types depending on the baler used by the farmer. These are “conventional” rectangular bales and cylindrical bales.
The sizes vary depending on the type of baler. The conventional ones are usually 35 x 45 x 110 cm but can be as big as 70 x 80 x 180. There are also machines that create large square bales by tying together several conventional bales.
The round bales (see picture) are approximately 5 feet in length with flat ends and have diameters of approximately 6 feet. Depending on the manufacturer of the baler and the type of material in the bales, they can weight from 350 to 680 Kg.
