asked in psychology, smile

Messerwisser answers:

It is in our genes for social behaviour and feelings. Even a newborn baby smiles back when seeing this.

I also read that 'if you make yourself smile the endorphins will start to work from the muscle actions and you will feel better and want to smile more and thus feel happier altogether'.

I don't know if anyone can confirm this.

A smile to me denotes a happy, friendly and welcoming person and that in turn makes you instantly happy and friendly, Lets face it it would be difficult to have a barney with someone with a big smile on there face.I love smiling and think there is a lot more poeple that should learn to do it.
Bring on the smiles,Apparently smiling and laughter is very good medicine for somebody with depression and that can only be a good thing.

Because the warmth of their smile is in their eyes, and to be looked at in that way always makes you feel good.

Maygs answers:

this can be seen as having a psychological benefit, as mentioned, release of endorphins, which give you a feeling of euphoria, sudden adrenalin rush etc.

or, plain and simple, it's nice to be noticed! we live in such a cold world these days, it's nice when the odd one breaks the rules.
