Who invented child-proof safety caps for medicine bottles?
You know the kind you have to push down before you can twist the cap off?

It's such a simple yet elegant solution. I was wondering who invented it and when?

Hope he or she has made a fortune.

There's even earlier prior art, too

The "Palm N Turn" childproof cap was invented by a Canadian Dr. Henri Breault in the mid 1960s. http://www.virtualmuseum.ca/Exhibitions/Medicentre/en/brea_print.htm

Previous childproof caps involved lining up marks on the cap and container. The cap could only be pried off when the cap was in the correct position. This was not very effective as it was hard to open but children had no problems working out that they needed to align the arrows or just achieved it through serendipity.

The Palm N Turn was simple to open but not obvious how it was done, even to children who watched their parents, apparently just twisting the cap off.

Here's a home video of the invention in progress!
