Do we take speech for granted? What tests can/do we carry out on mute people and young children...
that we do on verbal adults, what ways are there around testing a young infan that is not old enough to talk?
asked in babies, mutes, speech
I think while we've got them we take all sorts of things for granted. For example, health, it's not until it's gone that we realise how lucky we are to have it.
As for tests for those who can't speak and/or for older children, you could get them to point to cards with words or pictures on.
With babies too young to talk it's much more difficult I would imagine, you could probably judge a happy or sad reaction, but then that would be the viewer's interpretation and not necessarily the "truth".
