Do IBM/Lenovo thinkpads have a dummy battery thing?
"dummy battery" - like an empty case that fits in the bay such that there is no gaping hole if I don't want to use the battery?
Tried searching but can't find anything
asked in laptop, battery

Hello Arellia. I have found this site that appears to sell the sort of thing you are looking for.

This site also claims to sell a battery cover but the illustration looks as if it might be a combination battery and memory cover.

Another solution might be to install the battery but isolate the terminals from the laptop by inserting a small piece of paper - similar in principle to the little tab one often has to pull out to activate new electronic gizmos.
