'Effing and blinding' - where does this curious phrase come from?
What is the connection between the 'Effing' part and the 'blinding'?
asked in swearing, language, etymology
According to a link at the Cambridge dictionary website, "effing" is used to replace a popular word beginning with "f" that is not used in polite company, but "blinding" is used to replace the old fashioned phrase "Blind me!".
Note: I'd cite the source with a link, but it contains a naughty word :-)
